Never be afraid to Draw how you feel.

Art is everywhere and can be considered everything. Our chairs, bed, cars, table, etc. all are a creation a work of art. You know sometimes how people are shy or nervous about either drawing a certain piece of art or about posting a picture because people sometimes are worried about backlash they may get. I’ve gotten backlash before and a lot of it was from the women I’ve drawn some saying why I would draw women that is exposing a lot of skin. Which in all honesty its art that’s the way I view it and the way other artist view it. But I learned and am now a lot older and understand that their is nothing wrong with me and the art I draw its people in general. As an artist your just trying to create a nice piece of art that you like its not about if another person likes it or not what’s most important it what you like and feel when you draw the picture. If they don’t like it they can just leave or look away simple as that. But even when people make nasty comments or are just trying to be mean when you post a piece of artwork don’t let that discourage you because that’s their opinion and sometimes people don’t know the right way to tell someone something when trying to either help them or offer advice. So do what you love never be afraid to draw or post your art and creations on your blog, social media, etc. Just follow the rules and respect them of course of what the terms of agreement are with the websites. Don’t post anything that goes against the rules, their are social media sites where you can post your more graphic art if you need to. The same goes with Instagram as even with models they may post photos from a photo shoot they had but once again this is their life and what they love to do. They need to promote themselves to show what they can do and the work I see with a lot of these Instagram Models is very good and impressive. That’s one of the reasons why I draw some of the Models from Instagram because that is a good inspiration to me. Follow your dream and do what you love and you also have to draw what people want to see. That’s how you get a lot of follower which for a blog leads for more traffic and then it gives you more work to for commissions. So never be afraid do what you love and promote yourself as much as you can. Below is a drawing of Instagram Model Shelley Golden and once again she is a very pretty model if you want go follow her show the support and I hope you enjoy my drawing of her. Thank You for reading and enjoy my friends!

Beware the dangers of Fan Art!

Eagle-Man & Artic Cover

As most of us no we can’t sell or publish any artwork that isn’t ours without given permission. Which in most cases you will always want it to be written down on paper in the form of a contract, just to be safer than sorry. The reason is because you don’t want a legal issue coming up saying you were stealing someone else work. In the art field you have to be very careful of this because the companies of big fan art like with Marvel and DC Comics are high on people that try to sell there work without permission.

I bring this topic up again because recently I had tried to sell a drawing I created of Spider-man, Mary Jane, and Black Cat in full color with Adobe Photoshop. Now I have this drawing already on this site and other social blogs, but I had recently tried putting it on a site called www.redbubble.com.

Redbubble is a website where you can submit art and they will display your art on things like blankets, cups, phone cases, beach towels, Canvas, etc. Now with that if you upload your drawing and lets say someone buys a phone case with your artwork on it they will give you a percentage of the profit from what they make from the product. Now when I first did this I didn’t realize that Marvel was going to be looking out for fan art like this on other sites like redbubble.

I get a email saying my content was taken down because it had copyright violations. Guess who wrote the complaint. Marvel of course. So I researched it because I felt as if well I’m not really trying to make a profit from this I’m just designing new artwork and wanted to see how it would look on a phone case and other products. But according to the law unless I have written permission I can’t sell any fan art. Now its funny because you have to know the game to play it because from what I’ve researched and from what I’ve seen sometimes if you’ve done work for the company like Marvel or DC comics at Comic Cons they will sometimes let the artist sell fan art without any given permission.

I have seen in other places fan art sold like Batman, Super-Man, Flash, etc, on websites and at Comic cons. Now one thing I can say is for example lets say someone is selling a few drawings of fan art for lets say less than $100 worth of drawings, well the chances are Marvel isn’t going to spend the time, money, or resources to have a lawyer go out to either give a warning or sue for $100 worth or artwork. You know big comic book companies like Marvel, DC Comics, Top Cow, the hole comic book industry is coming down harder on this as more people are profiting off their work on a big scale. So when I think of it I understand why these comic book companies are becoming so strict because its their work and if they do let you sell something that is from their work they expect to see a profit to as it is their creation. You are just using it to make another creation. So before considering to draw fan art do your research and read all the rules on sites like redbubble, DeviantArt, etc. Always when creating something that isn’t your idea make sure you understand the copyright laws before attempting to sell. What you see above it my own in that can be found in my Art gallery Pencil&ink Gallery Page.

Remember its not illegal to draw or post Fan Art, its just illegal to try to sell as a profit that’s actually called stealing. I will be posting a artist tip talking about the warning of fan art and why its sometimes better to just go with your own design and artwork. Thanks for reading stay tuned for more updates.

Invest wisely when it comes to Business

There was a time before that I use to make YouTube videos as a way as to help other learn how to use programs like Photoshop CS6 as it is a very advanced program and can sometimes be a little difficult to use. Now at the time when I was first doing this I didn’t know and realize that when you make these types of videos that you need the proper equipment to make them as good as possible. When I say that I’m also referring to like the camera you may need or the microphone you use to do the video. The problem I ran into a lot was the sound and at the time the equipment that I was using the microphone more so I was using wasn’t a good quality microphone. So when I was speaking into it it wasn’t like a lot of these professional type microphones that we have today where the sound is picking up everything. To be honest with you I probably at most paid only $10 for the microphone and it was made more so with chatting on web cam online for the PC, but it wasn’t made for doing professional video recording. So when it comes to certain things business and professional wise you have to invest wisely in the tools you use for it. Below is a picture I took of some microphones that are available at Best Buy and these are good for doing live prod-cast as well as making videos for YouTube channels. If your making a video for like video game play then this too is all a big help for users. I will be posting more of these tips in my Artist Tips page and Business Tools page. Thank you for reading and below are only a few of the good quality microphones you can buy to make your professional videos, I will be posting in the Artist Tips page an updated list of stores you can get good quality equipment!

First ever Commission Drawing

Its nice to go down memory lane sometimes as I remember a few of the first drawings and commissions I have done for people over the years. One of the very first jobs/commissions was with a barber and friend that cuts my hair every two weeks and is always professional and always on time and does a good job at cutting hair. As well as very friendly. But one day we were talking and I was telling him how I;m starting a art career/business and basically I’m gonna be doing these commissions for people of course at a low cost as there is much competition out there. But I actually got paid pretty good for the commission and will never forget my first business job which was with my barber Apollo. Below is the drawing I did of him and I always keep a copy of it in my files and look back to it as a motivator for why I love what I do. As I mentioned before I am in the process of accepting commissions and I will soon have a page describing the work I do and the prices of all the work I do. Commissions Page will be coming in the next few weeks. Thanks for reading and if you have any questions feel free to email me at browncomicart@gmail.com. Thank You!

Wild Woman(Portrait)

This is a drawing I did back in 2011 right after I graduated from high school in the year of 2011. I didn’t use no reference I just drew how I was feeling and used a lot of my imagination as this is my own made up character. Her name is Wild Woman and I will also be posting a regular cartoon drawing of her. But as I’ve mentioned before in earlier post we always improve our drawings over the years and sometimes were able to come up with new ideas for our projects. Never throw away your old art work, keep and and always make a photocopy and try to store it in plastic dividers to keep the drawing in tact. Remember the lead starts to go away after a period of time so its very important to take care of your art and to have copies of your art for back up.

Also, your art can be a reminder and can be a good influence for new upcoming young artist or for anyone trying to become an artist today. Sometimes when we first start were like “man I’m never gonna as good as that artist”. But as you see it takes time and a lot of practice. As an artist I’m determined to help others in improving there art skills and offering tips on what to do to become the best artist you can be. One thing I can say and this is very true, always come up with your own style of Art, never try to copy another artist style. There are many reasons why me and other artist say that but to sum it all up you want someone to see how good of an artist you are and that’s what your trying to portray to the world.

As always I will keep you all updated on whats new and coming to BrownsComicArt and if you haven’t already check out some of my other pages as I have updated a lot of them including my art galleries. I’m using a very good plug-in which I will be talking about in a later post. I’d like to thank you all for reading and follow me on all my social media sites to the right for more updates as well as content that I post only on my other social media sites. Thanks for reading and stay tuned for more updates.

The Start of My Business Career

Art has always been my passion and it has always been my hobby. And over the years I’ve gotten better and better with the help of being in art class and doing some research and watching videos on YouTube. I was very young when my mom taught us the basics of how to draw and drawing Runs in my family.

But my career started when with the help of my Uncle who is a successful Entrepreneur and business man help my create my first wordpress blog. I was so thankful because I had no idea on how to create a website and the only way I was learning was from a business class I took in school called NFTE which had us using computer skills like Microsoft PowerPoint. Which was teaching me how to make and design a webpage/Website from sctrach.

Then I learned the basics of using Adobe Photoshop. I started with with Photoshop Elements then I upgraded to the bigger software Photoshop CS6 which the software is beautiful. But I learned to use it in terms of editing photos, doing digital art work, and coloring my own comics that I inked and drew first. So below I have a small gallery showing the work I’ve done. I am working to color all my art and to keep displaying them and I’m about to keep posting some of them hear and on some of my other social media sites. I will also be updating my about me page and will be deleting my contact page and merging it with my about me page. Thank you for reading and for being a subscriber!

Promoting is the key. Why is it very valuable?

Now I’ve blogged many post on things like the benefits to social media, using as many sites as possible, and making sure to take advantage of using a logo for your business. All of these can be also considered as promoting your business. Promoting your business especially when your trying to sell a product is very important because unless you are very well known or your popularity is high and you already have good business sells then you need a way to get known and recognized. Promoting in a way is a form of advertising and when promoting remember you still want to do so with as many free assets you have access too. Never be afraid to promote your business because it does pay off. Its just like with our websites/blogs, we have to promote our websites so people will find out and read our profile. If you have a ad-sense account for ads you know what I mean because it is based on clicks and traffic. So in order to make revenue you need to promote yourself so you can build traffic and start to make some business. I’ll be posting soon in my Business Tools page ways to help promote you business. Thanks for Reading!

LinkedIn. Should you create an Account?

Well, for those who haven’t heard of LinkedIn or don’t know what it is it’s a business and employee-oriented service that operators via websites and mobile apps. Its mostly used for professional networking where employers can post jobs and job seekers posting their CVs. You can download the LinkedIn app either on the Googleplay Store or Apple iTunes Store.

It also gives you the ability to create your own profile and resúme. That is the reason why I believe you should create a LinkedIn account because it free and it gives the ability for people to find you and know your skills and capabilities. This is just not for owning a business it’s also for individual people trying to build their profile in reference to building there own career.

When you do create an account you want to add as much work as you done over your entire career. Don’t hold anything back make sure to put all the experience you have an even example of your work. The more you gave the better, people will like what they see and you want to write and make it as professional as possible. That’s another reason why having a blog is a good thing too so people have something to go back on.

In this world today you can always find work and make a descent pay it just takes the right employer to find us. And you also have to put yourself out there and show that this is the career you want. I’ll have a artist tip page soon on this subject but I just wanted to post this as advice for the benefits of using LinkedIn. Thanks for reading and I’d like to hear your thoughts!

Receipts! Why so Important?

Receipts, we all are familiar with how receipts work. For the most part everytime we make a purchase we receive a receipt for our purchase. But as most of us know we need the receipt as a way of insurance purposes. I myself have found receipts useful when I’ve had merchandise I’ve sent back and either the mail carrier or person in charge of sending it back had mishandled the merchandise which without the receipt would have been hard for me to do. I had the receipt and was told that it was fine as long as I had the receipt saying I did my part the company couldn’t fine me for it. To make a long story short the merchandise was found and returned and I wasn’t fined but I had to call around because I was told it was missing in transit. So always for your protection keep your receipt.

As well as when in the business field always make sure to give your client/customer a receipt for all work done. And always keep yourself a copy because you never know what may happen. Stores give receipt so that you can’t be stopped and so it can show proof that you purchased your food/product. I learned in business that receipts not only are extra insurance for you but also is more professional for you.

I’ve seen businesses get under fire because workers wouldn’t give a receipt. Unless the consumer tells you they dont want the receipt, always give a receipt. Receipts are very important and should always be considered as a necessity. I will be posting an Artist Tip soon on some of the necessities you should have while running a business. Thank you for reading and feel free to share your thoughts!
